Type "online casino" into a search bar from Minneapolis or Moorhead and the results mix three very different things. Only one of them is something a Minnesotan can sign up for tonight. Here is the most surprising fact in the pile: Mystic Lake, the state's biggest casino with more than 4,000 slot machines, offers no online play at all. Its app tracks loyalty points and promotions, and that is where it stops. This guide sorts what you will find into what works and what does not, then compares five sweepstakes sites on this site's Minnesota roster.
What the search results actually contain
Real-money online casinos. Minnesota does not permit online casinos. The state also prohibits commercial casinos outside tribal land, and it has no sports betting. Any site offering real-money casino deposits to a Minnesota address is not operating under a Minnesota licence, because there is no such licence to hold.
Tribal casino apps and websites. The state's tribal casinos operate under federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act compacts, and their gaming happens on the floor. The Mystic Lake app is a good example: you can check your MClub balance, see entertainment schedules and book dining, but you cannot place a wager through it.
Sweepstakes casinos. These are the sites most Minnesotans end up using. They run on a no-purchase-necessary promotional sweepstakes model, which is a different structure from a real-money casino.
How the sweepstakes model works in practice
You play with two currencies. Gold Coins are for fun and carry no prize value. Sweeps Coins can be redeemed for real cash prizes, typically at 1 SC to $1. A free entry route, usually daily bonuses or a mail-in request, is mandatory, so no purchase is ever required. Coin packages are optional extras. You must be 18 or older, though some platforms set their own floor at 21. Our guide to how sweepstakes casinos work covers the mechanics in more depth.
Five sweepstakes sites on our Minnesota roster
Each of these is active on this site's roster and does not list Minnesota as an excluded state. Only a handful of our tests so far were run from Minnesota itself, so the figures are national: they come from April to September 2026, across all the states our reviewers test from.

McLuck is the most-tested operator in this group, with 129 tests from 16 states, and testers used its app in 60 of them. If you want a phone-first experience, that is the deepest evidence we have for any site on the roster.
Pulsz carries the highest average score of the four large-sample sites, 8.08 from 92 tests, and testers met an ID check in only 12 sessions, so you can usually look around before handing over documents.
WOW Vegas has been tested in 15 states, and its 150,000 WOW Coins at signup is the biggest coin count in the table. Most of its testers played on the website, which suits anyone who prefers a laptop.
High5Casino verifies early: 66 of 89 tests involved an ID check. The payoff showed up at redemption, where 23 of its 34 timed payouts landed within two days, the best ratio in the table. Read our High5Casino review.
Spree posts the top average score here, 8.18 from 22 tests, with a redemption-ease score of 8.14. Its payout timings are still few. See our Spree review.
Picking one
- You mostly play on a phone: McLuck or Pulsz, where testers used an app most often.
- You plan to redeem soon: High5Casino, which gets verification done before you need it.
- You want the most free Sweeps Coins at signup: High5Casino's 3 SC, then McLuck and Spree at 2.5.
Whichever you choose, use the free route first and only buy a package if you would spend that money on entertainment anyway. For the sweepstakes bill followed on this site, see our SF4474 tracker.
